IAPT Program

IAPT Programme

IAPT is a government funded programme to Improve Access to Psychological Therapies. £170m is being invested in people, training and systems to try and deliver on a 2005 manifesto promise.

Main aims

To improve access, support people in work and returning to work, develop protocols to make sure clinically effective treatments are available, develop a stepped care pathway to optimise use of resources, and reduce waiting lists.

Evidence based

A core principle of IAPT, it enables the service to be better targeted and more efficient while measuring outcomes. These require the appropriate information systems to be in place.

Stepped care

Stepped care pathways are being developed to improve service provision. Supports the right treatment right time philosophy.
